Houston utilizes her clinical experience, vision, and background working in executive level positions for Fortune 500 healthcare organizations, to expand opportunities for Vigilant Health.
Houston most recently served as Vice President of Network Development for Merit Health’s Jackson market, which consists of six hospitals and over 40 clinics. In this role, she conceived and implemented the network’s telehealth strategy and the area’s first tele-nocturnist program.
She also managed the market’s physician outreach and marketing team, as well as the network’s emergency transfer center, which saw an unprecedented reduction in emergency transfers out of network, under her leadership. Previously to her position as Vice President of Network Development with Merit Health, she served as Director of Physician Outreach/Market Development for Health Management Associates and Executive Director of the Jackson Heart Foundation.
Throughout her career, Tobey created care strategies and developed relationships with outside healthcare providers to expand access to primary and specialty care across the region. Houston began her healthcare career as a clinical professional, working as a critical care nurse for 13 years. She holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Belhaven University in Jackson and a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Mississippi College in Clinton. She is a board member of Christians in Action and previously served on the Executive Board of the American Heart Association, Jackson chapter.
